A beginner’s guide to your first yoga class

If you have never set foot on a yoga mat, here is everything you need to know — and almost nothing you need to bring.

What to wear. Anything stretchy and comfortable. You don’t need yoga pants. Cotton t-shirt and shorts are perfect.

What to bring. A water bottle. That’s it. We have mats, blocks, straps, blankets, and bolsters for everyone.

Arrive 10 minutes early. Sign in, use the bathroom, settle in. Walking in flustered defeats the purpose.

Tell the teacher anything relevant. Pregnancy, injuries, recent surgery, knee replacements — we adapt every pose.

You will not be the most flexible person in the room. Nobody cares. The person beside you is paying attention to themselves, not you.

Your first class is on us. Show up.
